The Challenge

The original Glide platform, a powerful portfolio management tool developed by Alphakinetic (now under FIS), was designed for expert users and featured deep functionality for trade and portfolio analysis. However, its complexity alienated key decision-makers, such as CFOs and portfolio managers; who found it difficult to access critical data without relying on technical power users. This dependency on manual reports not only slowed down decision-making but also limited product adoption and visibility of its value across organizations.

Problem Statement

The platform’s complexity created a bottleneck for business users, who needed quick, self-serve access to portfolio health and risk. Our goal was to simplify the interface without compromising the depth required by power users.

Duration

1 Year

As the Lead Designer, I spearheaded the redesign of the portfolio management with trading analysis experience. My tasks included conducting discovery research, ux strategy, ux & product design, prototyping, and usability testing, all while collaborating closely with engineers and stakeholders. I was also responsible for defining the success metrics that would shape the project’s outcome.

My Approach

Designed this analytical tool with a clean and intuitive navigation mode, interactions, and visuals, allowing users to easily find relevant information and access key features. Simplified the analytical process by reducing the number of manual operations and automating live results from the market for faster access to information and trading accordingly. The product is designed for users of all age groups with international exposure, focusing on accuracy and efficiency. Minimalistic and efficient UI assets significantly reduce loading speed and improve system performance by optimizing images, scripts, and backend code. Offering what is expected in the real business world from the users is key to enhancing the overall user experience.

This new product, designed from scratch with business goals and user expectations in mind, effectively conveys the platform's value proposition through a user-friendly interface. Launched on a tight timeline, the tool has boosted user engagement and company profits due to its intuitive interface, ensuring seamless interaction and a solid user experience.

Lessons & Outcome

Lessons Learned

This project taught me the value of early collaboration with the companies stakeholders and legal teams to ensure compliance without overburdening the user. It also reinforced the importance of validating design decisions through continuous user testing and feedback. Finally, I learned that sometimes the best UX decision is to remove a feature rather than fix it.

Project Outcome

By removing unnecessary friction points and simplifying the management and analysis process, we increased both user satisfaction and conversion rates. Additionally, reducing no. of clicks saved substantial costs, showcasing the power of user-centric design to benefit both the company and its customers.
